Fire Escapes and Staircases

The company’s standard design of fire escape is fabricated from flat mild steel sections with mild steel durbar treads and risers. Balustrading is constructed of mild steel sections. This basic design offers an economic means of meeting the requirements of the Fire Precautions Act 1971. However, the company will undertake the fabrication of fire escapes to any specification, provided they are in accordance with the Fire Precautions Act and with Building Regulations. In this connection, the company's design staff will work in co-operation with the local Fire Prevention Officers.
A full erection service is offered by the company for the
installation of all fabrications on site.

Although there is no standard range of products as such, the company has developed standard constructural techniques which permit the solution of most access problems. Straight flight, spiral and dog-leg staircases are normally constructed from mild steel, with column supports, although designs for cantilevering off an adjacent wall can also be manufactured. Various stringers are available in rolled hollow section or flat mild steel section. A variety of types of tread can be supplied, including metal tray sections for filling with concrete on site, these have the advantages of solidity, fire resistance and quietness in use, and may be carpeted on site or covered with vinyl flooring.
